Moonlit Memories

Morgan sat in the windowsill, gazing at the world below her with solemn eyes.  High above her, the moon peeked out from behind a sliver of clouds.  "Is something wrong, child?" he asked, knowing she could hear.  "You seem quiet."

She turned her violet eyes to him, tucking her hair behind one ear.  "I'm fine, Manny," she replied softly.  "I've just been thinking."

"About what?"

A sigh escaped her lips.  "Autumn will be over before much longer," she said.  "You know that the winter is not my favorite time of the year.  This one will mark the 200th year since..... Since you made me a Guardian.  I guess it's just a lot to consider."

"I understand," he said.  "You know I am here if you need to talk about it."

"I know," Morgan said, pulling her knees up and resting her hands on them.  "I just can't help thinking about my life before all this.  Everything is so different now, but I still feel the same inside."  Another sigh.  "I don't know.  I just need time to think."

"Of course, my dear," Manny said.  "Take all the time you need.  Just remember, though: Sometimes talking about your thoughts can help you understand them better." 

"Right," Morgan mumbled, resting her head against the wall at her back as her mind returned again to the past.

With winter around the corner, Morgan finds herself thinking about the winter that took her life, when she became a Guardian.  This time of year always leaves her a little sad, as she considers the life she never got to finish.
